Barbara Ann Corcoran is an American businesswoman. The Corcoran Group is a New York-based real estate brokerage. In 2001, the company was transferred to NRT at $66 million. Corcoran quit the firm shortly after. One of the original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in all 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank to date. As of February 2020, she had signed 53 deals on the show, with the most significant being a $350,000 investment to purchase 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second of ten children from a working-class Irish Catholic family. Florence Corcoran's mother was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father through Corcoran's childhood. Her family sometimes depended on free food delivery from a nearby grocery store. Corcoran still remembers her father as someone who drank often and was rude to her mother. Corcoran had difficulty at school and was later told that she had dyslexia. She was a student at the local Catholic elementary school, and then began high school at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. After failing several courses in her freshman year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School, where she received a grade of D.
